The Tourist Attractions of Knokke-Heist:

In Belgium at least, Knokke-Heist is most famous as a seaside resort and an affluent one at that. For Belgians this is a popular place to come in the summer and enjoy the long, sandy beaches that Knokke-Heist offers, as well as numerous smart hotels and restaurants that line the seaside promenade. The beaches may not be the main draw for international tourists but if you’re here in the summer you’re sure to enjoy them anyway while taking in the other sights and sounds of Knokke-Heist.

Het Zoute

One part of Knokke-Heist that lines the coast is Het Zoute. This area is characterised by sand dunes and luxurious homes where the wealthy of Belgium live and stay for the summer. There’s not a lot to do here as such, but it’s a nice part of the town where you can enjoy the coastal vistas and admire the villas and mansions. For a relatively small town Knokke-Heist has a surprising number of cultural attractions. Art lovers will be in their element in Knokke-Heist as there are said to be over 40 art galleries of varying sizes, giving you plenty of opportunity to see art from local and national artists.Music lovers are also well catered for in July when the annual Kneistival takes place. This is a music festival that happens every year over the course of a week, and best of all it’s free.

Zwin Nature Reserve

Back to Knokke-Heist’s natural attractions and the Zwin nature reserve is a popular one. Shared between Belgium and the Netherlands Zwin is a nature reserve that’s most famous for its many salt-resistant plants. This is a great place for bird-watching too, and there’s a small zoo where you can see some of the domestic birds of Belgium.

When Should You Visit?:

You’d expect summers in Knokke-Heist to be warm and sunny as this is a seaside resort. In reality the weather can be nice between June and September with some hot days, but you wouldn’t want to count of hot and sunny weather every day of your visit. Summers would however be the best time for sightseeing as temperatures should be warm, while spring and autumn can be mild. Winters are mild to cool and wetter.
