The Tourist Attractions of Chamonix:

With Mont Blanc on the doorstep Chamonix is a prime destination for those who love mountains! There are multiple sports you can enjoy out of Chamonix so it’s a great base for all sorts of outdoor pursuits, whether in the summer or the winter.

Chamonix in the Winter

Many people know Chamonix as a winter destination and in fact it holds the title for being the home of the first ever Winter Olympics in 1924. This title alone suggests that Chamonix should be a great place to come skiing, and nearly 90 years later it still lives up to that reputation.

There are numerous places to enjoy skiing in the Chamonix region, but it’s not just a mecca for skiing. Other winter sports can be tried out here too, including some very extreme sports such as ice climbing, and extreme skiing.

Whether you’re here in the summer or the winter you should enjoy one of the highest cable cars in the world. It travels up the Aiguille du Midi which stands 3842 metres high and is quite spectacular.

Chamonix in the Summer

In more recent years Chamonix has really become a popular summer destination too, with multiple activities possible in the area. Hiking is probably the most tame of these outdoor pursuits, but even so with the high elevations it can be very strenuous. You can hike between peaks, hike up a mountain, or take a cable car up the mountain and hike down!

Mountain biking is becoming increasingly popular in Chamonix too. You can access lift-assisted areas and go freeriding, or make use of some of the single track trails.

Mont Blanc is one of the world’s popular alpine mountaineering spots too, plus there’s plenty of rock climbing around Chamonix. You could take to the skies and go paragliding, or take to the water and enjoy the thrill of rafting. Whatever you do, you won’t be bored in Chamonix!

When Should You Visit?:

With so many activities to do in both summer and winter Chamonix can be visited across the year. Skiing can begin as early as November and last into April, but check skiing forecasts before making plans if you’re going at the beginning or end of the season. During the summer it’s mild in Chamonix and temperatures are kept cooler than they might otherwise be because of the elevation.
