Flights to Mauren
Like most of the settlements in the small European country of Liechtenstein, the municipality of Mauren is compact and home to less than 4,000 people. Mauren is situated in the north east of Liechtenstein, amid rolling green hills, woods and countryside.
The small nation of Liechtenstein has no airport within its own borders, so any flights to Mauren will arrive at the St. Gallen-Altenrhein Airport (airport code: ACH) in the neighboring country of Switzerland. Austrian Airlines and Lufthansa both offer the same flight to Mauren from South Africa, landing at St Gallen, with stops in Frankfurt and Vienna. Egyptair also goes to Switzerland with a flight through Cairo and Vienna. Another option would be with British Midland, and their route stops in London and also Vienna.

The Tourist Attractions of Mauren:
Though Mauren is an attractive little town it’s unlikely you would plan a whole holiday here because there’s not a great deal in the way of tourist attractions. The minute size of Liechtenstein means visitors can easily cover the main tourist attractions of the country within days, or you can spend longer and take more time enjoying the beautiful countryside. Its location in the north east corner of Liechtenstein means Mauren would make a good base for exploring the northern half of the country and there are a couple of places to stay for a night or two within the town and the municipality.
One feature that Mauren is famous for is the scenic countryside that surrounds it. Mauren is known as the village of seven hills and the rolling hills make for beautiful scenery all around, plus hilltop vistas if you feel like taking a walk.
One of those walks will take you to the ruins of the Castle of Schellenberg; accessible by about a 30 minute walk from Mauren. This is undoubtedly the main tourist attraction for Mauren and although in ruins, the castle has plenty of history to share – it dates from the 13th century yet the settlement that once surrounded it has its origins thousands of years ago.
Or if you prefer, instead of walking you could enjoy horseback riding as Mauren is one of the few places in Liechtenstein where you can visit riding stables and take a horse out.
On the outskirts of Mauren is another tourist attraction, the Birka Bird Paradise, or Vogelparadies Birka. This attraction has limited guided tours or you can simply walk around on your own, any day of the week. This park has displays of birds from around the world, and it also features a children’s playground.
When Should You Visit?:
Mauren is a pleasant place to visit during the summer months when temperatures are mild to warm. Days are relatively sunny during the summer too, so this really is the best time for sightseeing and enjoying the countryside. In the winter Mauren is reasonably mild too, even though the town is in an alpine location, but the snow capped mountains nearby are the perfect place to enjoy winter sports.
