The Tourist Attractions of Schifflange:

As with the rest of Luxembourg, Schifflange is only a small town and commune with a population of less than 10,000 people. As you can imagine, with so few people living here full time Schifflange doesn’t have an abundance of services and facilities, or things for tourists to see and do. On the other hand, because Luxembourg is so small it’s easy to get from one town to another and see the whole country in just a matter of days. As Schifflange is in the south west corner of the country you can use this as a base for heading north and exploring everything else that Luxembourg has to offer.

Schifflange itself was founded in 1871 when a steelworks was established here. Steel is one of the main industries of Luxembourg, so this meant Schifflange became an important place for the country’s economy.

Today, one of the main attractions of Schifflange is its swimming pool which attracts both locals and visitors. The pool is a good size and has different activities going on, not just swimming, depending on the day of the week and time of day.

From Schifflange Railway Station you can catch a train to the city of Luxembourg where there are many more things to see and do, or just travel along to the next town, Esch-sur-Alzette. Esch has several attractions including the Museum of the Resistance, and the historic Berwart Tower, while in Luxembourg City the main attraction is Fort Thungen. The fort was reconstructed in the 1990s and is also home to the Grand Duke Museum of Modern Art, while under the fort there is a network of underground tunnels. Other museums include the National Museum of Natural History, and the National Museum of History and Art.

While you’re staying in Schifflange you can visit Luxembourg City several times to see all its sites. The Grand Ducal Palace is another popular one and is the official residence of the Grand Duke of Luxembourg. Nearby, the Adolphe Bridge which was built in the early 1900s is a popular landmark and it offers some lovely views of the city.
