The Tourist Attractions of Grindelwald:
Grindelwald is both a summer and a winter destination, offering facilities, services, and attractions that make this village popular during both seasons.
Grindelwald in the Winter
Grindelwald became best known as a winter resort destination, offering an alternative to the famous and very popular nearby resort of Interlaken. The smaller and more intimate feel of Grindelwald makes this a popular place with families and with skiers who perhaps aren’t as confident to take on very busy slopes. The slopes at Grindelwald do however provide something for everyone including beginners and intermediate levels. Plus there’s access to the slopes of the Eiger Glacier for those who want to take on skiing of a more challenging kind.
You don’t have to be a skier to enjoy Grindelwald during the winter though as there’s an assortment of other winter time activities on offer here too. There are groomed winter hiking trails and tobogganing to enjoy.
Grindelwald in the Summer
After becoming fairly well known as a winter resort the village of Grindelwald has now started to become a popular summer time destination too. The scenery surrounding the village is beautiful and spectacular and is of course perfect for enjoying hiking in mid to late summer when the trails are safest and driest. You can use Grindelwald as a base for exploring the many hiking trails of the Alps, or visit the nearby well known resort area of Interlaken. It’s only around 30 minutes by train from Grindelwald and the train journey itself is highly scenic.
The Village of Grindelwald
Whatever time of year you visit you can enjoy the quaint village of Grindelwald. There’s a small local history museum to visit where you can find out more about the history of Grindelwald and the surrounding region. The village is well prepared for tourists and there are some lovely shops, including those selling the famous Swiss Army Knife. Grindelwald has restaurants and hotels to suit most budgets as well.
When Should You Visit?:
When you should visit Grindelwald really depends on what it is you enjoy doing! Winters are great for skiing and other winter activities and you can usually rely on plenty of snow. Spring and late autumn are not usually recognised as top times to visit because the weather is changeable, but the summer, especially mid to late summer, is usually a great time to visit if you want to go hiking and sightseeing.
