The Tourist Attractions of Vernier:
Being so close to Geneva International Airport means it’s very quick and easy to get to Vernier, just a short taxi ride away. Vernier itself isn’t really considered to be a tourist destination, but again, being so close to Geneva and Lake Geneva means the municipality will appeal to some tourists who don’t wish to stay in Geneva itself. You will no doubt find cheaper accommodation here in Vernier, and with the train station in the Cointrin area of the Vernier municipality, you can get into Geneva city centre very quickly and easily via train.
The municipality is made up of Cointrin (where the airport is located), Aire, Vernier Village, Le Lignon, Les Avanchets, and Chatelaine, and there are a couple of attractions within these if you want to stay local. Vernier Village features a number of attractive older buildings, mostly from around the 18th century, while Lignon is famous for its more modern construction; a 1 kilometre long block of apartments. Though the apartments aren’t the prettiest architecture to look at, this has become somewhat of a tourist attraction!
Some parts of Vernier are right on the River Rhone so if you enjoy walking there are several spots where you can take a nice riverside walk or walk amongst the trees and wooded areas. Aire is by the river and one landmark here you can see is the Aire Castle.
Geneva and Lake Geneva
Once you’ve exhausted the attractions in Vernier you can hop on the train or take a short car journey into Geneva. Geneva is a large city with many different attractions including culture, scenery, and of course Lake Geneva. It is famous for the huge fountain that shoots out of Lake Geneva, called Jet d’Eau, and other landmarks include the grand Palais des Nations which can be toured by the public.
Museums include the Museum of Natural History, the Museum of Art and History, the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, and the International Museum of the Reformation.
When Should You Visit?:
