Downtown Santa Ana Historic Districts
Santa Ana was founded in 1869 and there’s still a good selection of historical buildings in the city to this day. The Historic Downtown District was established to make sure these pockets of history were protected, including a number of Art Deco style buildings. The Old Orange County Courthouse was built in the Romanesque style of architecture and it’s now a museum. Another museum in this district is the Dr Willella Howe-Waffle House and Medical Museum.
Artist Village and Fiesta Marketplace are two popular shopping areas in the southern part of the Santa Ana Downtown Historic District.
Bowers Museum
In addition to those museums mentioned above Santa Ana has the Bowers Museum. This museum of art and culture was established in 1936 and named for the land owner who donated the land on which it stands. The Bowers Museum has an excellent collection of over 100,000 objects allowing visitors to experience cultures from around the world. A couple of blocks from the main museum Kidseum provides a museum specially created for children.
Santa Ana Zoo
If you’re visiting Santa Ana with children then the Santa Ana Zoo could be the next stop on your list of attractions. Though not by any means a huge zoo (covering 20 acres) it’s popular all the same and has a focus on monkeys and primates from around the world as well as featuring mammals, birds, and a farm collection. The children’s train, Zoofari Express, is one of the zoo’s most popular attractions.
Discovery Science Center
Another great attraction in Santa Ana for visitors with children is the Discovery Science Center. Over 100 hands-on exhibits will get the children interested in science. There are different themed areas to enjoy, and outside the centre’s huge solar cube has become one of Santa Ana’s most recognisable landmarks.
