Fort Lauderdale has plenty to offer tourists, attracting visitors for a wide variety of reasons with its great outdoor recreation and cultural attractions. The beaches are an excellent bonus when you come on holiday to Fort Lauderdale, allowing you to combine an assortment of attractions with days on the beach.

By day you can enjoy the long expanse of sand and surf that is Fort Lauderdale Beach, while by night you can make use of the entertainment in this part of the city. Known as The Strip, the boulevard that runs alongside the beach and into the downtown heart of the city features some great bars and interesting restaurants where you’ll find a variety of cuisines being served. The arts and entertainment district of Fort Lauderdale is well known for being a vibrant place with restaurants, bars and nightclubs as well as performing arts venues.

For more of the outdoor life you can go boating in Fort Lauderdale and there are plenty of places to do this. Not only is there a marina from which you can sail off into the sunset, but the city if full of an intricate canal system, criss-crossing roads and neighbourhoods. Despite there being many things to do outdoors in Fort Lauderdale the city does also have a very good selection of museums, perfect for a rainy day! The museums are widespread in terms of what they offer too. You can see the oldest building in the city for example if you’re interested in history – Stranahan House, which was originally built as a trade post in 1901.

There are other opportunities to learn about history in Fort Lauderdale too, such as at the Fort Lauderdale History Center, and the Old Dillard Museum. Or for a change of subject the city also offers the Museum of Art Fort Lauderdale, and the Museum of Discovery and Science, to name just a few.

When Should You Visit?:

A tropical climate means you’ll enjoy warm to hot temperatures throughout the year in Fort Lauderdale, though this will generally be combined with quite substantial rainfall. The summer months are the hottest and the wettest, with average high temperatures ranging between 30 and 32C from May to September, but you should also remember there is always the threat of hurricanes from June to November. This makes winter the better time to visit for several reasons, as average highs are still between 25 and 28C and though there is still rainfall it’s a lot less than in the summer.
