The Tourist Attractions in Overland Park:

Overland Park has several of its own attractions for visitors to this city, but being so close to Kansas City also makes this a good alternative place to stay if you’re heading to Kansas City for a visit. Kansas City has many different things to see and do, but Overland Park has plenty enough to keep you occupied for several days at least.

Overland Park Arboretum and Botanical Gardens
Probably the largest attraction in Overland Park is the Arboretum and Botanical Gardens which cover an area of 300 acres. Some areas of the gardens are still being established because the park was only set up in 1996, however, this doesn’t detract from the beauty of the area and if you enjoy walking on riverside trails and admiring plants and trees this is a great place to visit. If you’re in Overland Park with children, one of the garden’s attractions is the Children’s Discovery Garden which has a story tree, a frog pond and other things to keep the kids entertained!

Deanna Rose Children’s Farmstead
Once any children in your family have made the most of the botanical gardens why not visit the Deanna Rose Children’s Farmstead? This is one of the Kansas City area’s top attractions, and best of all it’s free! There are over 200 animals that children can get up close to and there’s a lovely farmyard feel about the place including an early 1900’s school house and more.

Shopping in Overland Park
In the historic downtown of Overland Park you’ll find older buildings, the clocktower plaza, and the popular Farmers Market where you can pick up some local produce, but for shopping of a different and more modern kind, there’s the Oak Park Mall. This is a large indoor shopping mall that has around 180 stores including big names like JC Penney’s and Macy’s.

The Town Center Plaza is another place to try – this is an open air shopping mall with many high end stores as well as a 20 screen cinema, and more.

When Should You Visit?:

For many visitors the preferred times to visit Overland Park are late spring and autumn when temperatures are mild, and precipitation and humidity levels are lower. Summer is hot and humid with average highs of 32C in July, the hottest month, while winters are quite cold and often experience ice storms.
