The Tourist Attractions in Edison:
Edison is very proud of the fact that the inventor Thomas Edison came up with one of the world’s most important inventions while living here. The incandescent light bulb was invented in Edison and so it’s not difficult to figure out where the township’s motto ‘Let There Be Light’ came from! Visitors will find there’s a selection of attractions in Edison, but the Edison Memorial Tower and Museum is the town’s most famous sight.
Thomas Alva Edison Memorial Tower and Museum
The memorial tower and museum are located in the Menlo Park district of Edison, and were built on the site of what was once Thomas Edison’s laboratory. The laboratory no longer exists, but in its place is a tower standing 134 feet high. The top of the tower features a ball-like object which is supposed to represent the incandescent light bulb, Edison’s most famous invention.
In addition to the tower there is a museum where you can see many more of Thomas Edison’s inventions as well as the original light bulbs and the phonograph. There is also memorabilia and photographs on display here making this a worthwhile visit if you’re interested in technological history.
Menlo Park Mall
Visiting Edison is also recommended if you enjoy shopping because the township is home to the Menlo Park Mall. This is one of the larger shopping malls in New Jersey, containing 175 stores that include big name anchor stores such as Macy’s, Barnes and Noble, and Nordstrom, plus there are of course many smaller well known stores as well. Menlo Park Mall has a food court and a 12 screen cinema.
Asian Shops and Restaurants
For whatever reason, Edison has become a popular place to live for Asians. The Oak Tree Road area of Edison is where you’ll find many Asian stores and restaurants so if you fancy an authentic Indian meal or wish to buy some Asian imports this is a great place to go for them!
When Should You Visit?:
Edison has a humid subtropical climate so the township receives rainfall throughout the year, but usually at its highest during the summer months. The summer months (June to August) are also the warmest and most humid, with average high temperatures reaching the high 20’s C. Winters are fairly cool and usually have a fair amount of snowfall, but spring and autumn can be a nice time to visit Edison with milder temperatures experienced.
