The Tourist Attractions of Tangier:

Tangier is situated at the entrance to the Strait of Gibraltar, which is where the Mediterranean Sea meets the Atlantic Ocean. This has graced the city with some excellent beaches and, along the waterfront neighbourhoods of the city there’s a modern and almost European feel. Venture inland a little and you’ll come to places like the Kasbah with its true North African atmosphere and appeal!

Tangier Kasbah
As one of the oldest parts of the city, the Kasbah is a great place to visit. It really does have the feel of old North Africa that you’ve probably seen in numerous movies and makes for a wonderful place to simply wander around and soak in the atmosphere. There are shops and a variety of other things to see here too, such as the Kasbah Mosque.

The Kasbah Mosque
As one of the major landmarks of the Kasbah, the mosque is one that you should look out for while wandering around. It dates back to 1230 and is difficult to miss with its tall tower.

The Kasbah Museum
Formerly a sultan’s palace, this attractive building is another landmark within the Kasbah and worth visiting for the interesting museum inside. You can discover the history of Tangier and the Kasbah here, and see objects and artefacts that date all the back to Phoenician times.

In other parts of Tangier there are also several other museums to visit such as the Tangier American Legation Museum which is housed within the first American public property to be situated outside of the US. For art lovers there is the Museum of Contemporary Art, and the Museum of Moroccan Arts and Antiquities.

Café Hafa
A famous institution of Tangier is Café Hafa which has hosted many famous people since it opened in 1921 including The Beatles. Today the café still has its ornate 1920’s decoration and feel and it’s set in an amazing location overlooking the Bay of Tangier. Make sure you stop by for a cup of their famous mint tea!

When Should You Visit?:

Tangier essentially has a Mediterranean climate so it stays mild all year round and has the majority of its rainfall during the winter months of November to February. Rain is also a little heavier until May and then there’s very little through the summer. Temperatures are pleasant from May, peaking in July and August with an average high over 28C. September is just a degree cooler, making this a nice time to visit.
