The Tourist Attractions in Africa:
Places to Visit in Africa
The South African destination of Cape Town is a harmonious mixture of new world refinement, third world vibrancy and old world charm. The wine estates in Franschoek, Stellenbosch, Constantia and Paarl are considered to be some of the best in the world and visitors are welcomed to sample the wines, ports and brandies expertly crafted by their wine masters. Table Mountain is a sight that many a seafarer of old looked upon, both with awe and relief, after having braved the tempestuous waters that surround the southern tip of Africa. A short trip up a well maintained cable car will place you on top of this mountain – a view that is guaranteed to take your breath away. Aquariums, museums, fine dining, shopping, beaches, rivers and – lest we forget – the heart warming hospitality for which this city is world famous for. Once you have been there you will know why Cape Town has been voted as one of the top international destinations in the world.
The Serengeti – in Masaai it means Endless Plains: home to The Lion King and what can only be viewed to be the greatest wildlife experience on the planet. This inimitable area stretches from south western Kenya all the way through to north western Tanzania. The overland migration of millions of animals across its expanse, crossing the Mara River in their quest for rain, is considered to be one of the seven tourist travel wonders of the world.
Egypt, birth place of the Pharaohs and home to the only survivor of the Seven Wonders of the World: the Great Pyramid of Giza. You can visit the Pyramids and Temples, Saladin’s Citadel, the Sphinx, and the ancient city of Heliopolis. You can take a Nile cruise, ride camels, scuba dive or visit the Egyptian museum’s collection of 136,000 artefacts. The country offers more than a trip down memory lane – rather, it is as close to a time travel experience as you will ever get.
Swakopmund, a quaint little town on the West Coast of Namibia that offers more than you could ever imagine when you first lay your eyes on it. Take a trip to the moon landscape just outside the town or visit the magnificent dunes just south of the Swakop River. While you are there, you may want to take part in dune boarding, camel riding or the thrill of quad biking across the desert sands. If you prefer a leisurely game of golf, the Rossmund Desert Golf Course is one of only 5 all grass desert golf courses in the world. For shoppers, the town offers an enormous diversity of crystals, leather items and hand-woven cloths and if it entertainment you are after, there are many quaint little pubs and at least two casinos where you will be able to test your hand against that of Lady Luck’s.
When Should You Visit?:
The weather in Africa is as diverse as its people. It is one of the few places where the right time of year to visit, is any time. The best time of year to visit the continent will be dependent on the activities you have in mind: The Serengeti migration – October; beach vacations – November to March; pyramids – August to October and March to May; and game experiences – winter.
