Northern Armenia
Northern Armenia is a remote and mountainous area that’s least visited by tourists however there is still plenty here to see. This part of Armenia is lush and green and features many forests. Highlights include Dilijan, known as Armenia’s Little Switzerland. It’s an alpine looking resort town that’s popular with locals and tourists alike. There are numerous remote monasteries in Northern Armenia including Harichavank Monastery, Haghpat Monaster and Sanahin Monastery. The latter two are combined as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Eastern Armenia
The highlight of Eastern Armenia is Lake Sevan. This huge lake takes up 5% of the land area of the entire country and is a popular holiday spot. Central Armenia

The city is far more modern that you might expect with its luxurious hotels and restaurants and a great deal of culture. In terms of historical attractions there is the Erebuni Fortress as well as the oldest church in the city, called Katoghike. The Armenian Genocide Memorial is a moving memorial to the victims of the genocide as well as a great place to enjoy city views.
Also in central Armenia is the spiritual capital of the country, Echmiadzin, which is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
When Should You Visit?:
June to September usually brings dry and sunny weather to most of Armenia and with warm temperatures this is a nice time to visit. Autumns are long lasting, resulting in great autumn colours on the trees and foliage so again this is a good time to visit. In the winter the weather gets cold and snowy so is not suitable for sightseeing, however Armenia does have ski resorts if you enjoy skiing.
