Places to Visit in Europe
If history is on your itinerary, why not start off in the ancient Roman Empire: Italy. Pay a visit to the nearly 2,000 year old Colosseum in Rome, where more than 50,000 spectators were entertained for more than 500 years by the many gladiatorial contests for which this historical arena was the most infamous for. Then perhaps, head out for Milan. Enjoy a glass of Chianti at a street café while watching the stylish Milanese stroll by or, if shopping is your passion, succumb to the allure of the many famous designers who have made Milan one of the fashion capitals in the world.
You only need cross the northern border of Italy to enter a winter paradise called Austria. The ski areas are abundant with some, like Saalbach-Hinterglemm, boasting state of the art Doppelmayer ski lifts, more than 200km in ski runs and by far and away, the best aprés ski that Europe has to offer. The Austrian cuisine warms the belly and the Austrian hospitality warms the heart. It is one of those rare countries where you arrive as a guest and depart as a friend.
Then, for something completely different: why not try Romania? It is an ‘experience’ destination of note. You may want to visit Transylvania’s quaint medieval towns and villages, or head up to see the castle which was purportedly occupied for hundreds of years by the cruel and ruthless Draculas – the most infamous of which was undoubtedly Vlad III Dracula of Wallachia. If this prospect chills your blood a tad too much, you may choose to rather drop in at Bucovina with its beautifully painted monasteries, or to simply take a gentle, romantic trip down the picturesque Danube River instead.
A European trip has to, at some point in time, incorporate the glamour of Monte Carlo. Located in Monaco, this playground of the rich, the royal and the renowned, not only promises, but also delivers an incomparable nightlife experience. Yachts, sport cars, diamonds, and gold. This city is the epitome of opulence and luxury personified.
Paris is certainly also one of the most popular destinations in Europe: famous for the wonderfully enchanting experience it offers and infamous for the haughty demeanour of those that made this city their home. Partake in her beauty, and engage with her spirit. Stroll through the gardens of the Tuileries, visit the Louvre, scale the Eiffel Tower and revel at the Moulin Rouge. Very few things in Paris have ever been certain; except perhaps, that once you have been there, you will always come back for more.
When Should You Visit?:
The best time to visit Europe in general, is during the months of April through June, and September through October, when the crowds are less and the weather temperate. For skiing, the best months are from mid-December to the end of March. August is not the ideal month to visit Europe because the crowds throng to all the tourists locations.
