The Tourist Attractions of Miami:

As mentioned above, probably the main appeal with Miami for many visitors is the climate and the beaches. There are many beach parks, one of the most popular being Lummus Park Beach where topless sun bathing is allowed, though if you want to be really free, go to Haulover Beach Park where nude sun bathing is allowed! This is also one of Miami’s popular spots for windsurfing and surfing.

In the South Beach district of Miami you’ll find South Beach, of course, and it’s also in this area of the city that you’ll find the famous Art Deco District, which is said to be the world’s largest collection of modern Art deco architecture. Constructed in the early 1900’s, the buildings were very radical and unusual. A good way to see the best of the area is by taking a tour.

Another tour you may like to take is the Miami Duck Tours which is both a boat and a land-vehicle so you get to see both the streets and the water on one of these!

If you’ve ever wanted to travel to Latin America, why not try Miami’s Little Havana district?! This was primarily the home of Cubans between the 1970’s and 1990’s though this has now diversified. You may be in Miami, but the culture here is quite different, as you find locals playing dominos on the streets and smoking large cigars!

Miami Beach, which is actually a separate city to Miami itself, has a good mix of everything for the visitor. This is one of the most popular beach resorts in the whole of the US and is said to be one of the best places to go for shopping in Miami.

Miami is also a good location for exploring further afield too, and there are two national parks nearby – Biscayne National Park and the Everglades National Park. The Everglades is world famous, and is the third largest park in the United States. It’s probably best known for its alligators and crocodiles though it’s also home to many other species of animals, birds and plants!

Biscayne National Park is the largest marine park operated by the National Park Service and is a beautiful place to visit just for a day or for longer, to try to see all the 512 different species of fish found here!

Miami is also an excellent place to start a cruise from as the majority of cruise ships travelling into the Caribbean depart from here. Miami’s port is one of the most important in the US.

When Should You Visit?:

Because of the great location Miami enjoys near the equator, you are guaranteed warm to hot weather throughout the year. However, Miami does have a wet season which is from June to November so although the temperatures are hot then, rain and thunderstorms occur just about every day.

The summer average high temperature is about 27C (80F), whilst in the winter it is usually somewhere between 15.5C (60F) to 21C (70F).
