Travellers can choose from Lufthansa, Virgin Atlantic Airways, United Airlines, South African Airways, BMI, and Delta Air Lines for one stop flights to Colorado from South Africa. The Tourist Attractions in Colorado:

The Rocky Mountains play an important part in everyday life in Colorado for both locals and visitors, and parts of the Rocky Mountains can be found right across the state from north to south. However, many visitors prefer to hear straight to the Rocky Mountain National Park…

Rocky Mountain National Park

Scenery and hiking are the main attractions of the Rocky Mountain National Park, and both are certainly in abundance here. There are 359 miles (574 km) of trails set aside for hikers as well as for backpackers and horseback riders. Some of the trails lead to spectacular views and beautiful lakes such as Emerald Lake and Dream Lake. There is also plenty of wildlife to look out for too, as well as many different species of plants.

Other National Parks in Colorado

In addition to the Rocky Mountain National Park Colorado has another three national parks, each with something different to experience.

Mesa Verde National Park combines scenery with the ancient cliff dwellings of the Ancestral Puebloans. The cliff dwellings here are very well preserved and have also been added to the UNESCO World Heritage Sites list.

Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park features a 12 mile (19 km) long scenic gorge, which although not a rival to the Grand Canyon is spectacular all the same. The newest addition to Colorado is the Great Sand Dunes National Park which includes the tallest sand dunes in North America at over 750 feet high.

Skiing in Colorado

With so many mountains in Colorado, skiing is hugely popular too. Two of the USA’s most famous ski resorts are right here in Colorado – Aspen and Vail. Everybody wants to be seen in Aspen, whilst Vail features the largest ski mountain ski slopes in North America.

However, it’s the slightly lesser known (outside of the USA) ski resort of Breckenridge which gets the title for the United States’ most popular ski resort!

Cities in Colorado

Colorado has so much to see and do without even visiting its cities, but cities like Denver should definitely be on visitors list of places to visit in Colorado.

Denver is the capital and largest city of the state and has the nickname Mile High City because the whole city sits at an elevation of at least 1 mile. There’s tons to see in this vibrant city including a huge assortment of museums and the State Capitol.

Colorado Springs is the second largest city in the state. Again there’s plenty to see and do here and this is a great base for exploring some of the scenic and popular surrounds such as Pikes Peak, and the Garden of the Gods.

Other popular cities include Boulder, Durango, Fort Collins, Pueblo, and Grand Junction.

When Should You Visit?:

Being such a highly elevated state, and with many changes in elevation, the climate of Colorado is quite complex and variable. Taking Denver as an example, summers are warm to hot with an average high of 31C (88F) in July. Late spring and early autumn are both pleasant, but winters can be cold and of course snowy.
