Jefferson City
Jefferson City is the capital city of Missouri and is situated centrally within the state. It was named after US president Thomas Jefferson and has a number of historical attractions to visit. The attractive Missouri State Capitol Building for example was completed in 1917 and free tours of the building are offered. Museums include the Missouri State Museum which is located within the State Capitol building and the Jefferson Landing State Historic Site is the spot at which settlers first landed from the Missouri River and began building the city. There are buildings on the site which date back to 1839.
Kansas City
Kansas City is the largest city in Missouri. This rather unique city is actually split between the two states of Missouri and Kansas, so if you visit this city you can say you’ve been to two US states! A variety of attractions here include the Liberty Memorial and National World War 1 Museum with its views over the city. The American Jazz Museum, the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, and for Harley Davidson fans a tour of the Final Assembly Plant is available!
St. Louis
Kansas City may be the largest city in Missouri but St Louis has the largest metropolitan area. This is a very attractive city with a vast number of free attractions! St Louis was named after King Louis IX of France. The most famous landmark in St Louis is the Gateway Arch. This is the world’s tallest national monument and is a symbolic gateway to the west. You can go up to the top of the arch via a unique elevator, and visitors should also see the museum and the movie about the building of the arch. Other attractions include the Missouri Botanical Garden, the Cathedral Basilica of St Louis, Forest Park and the City Museum.
Missouri Natural Attractions
Apart from the cities Missouri attracts visitors for its natural attractions and scenery too. The Ozark Mountains lie in the south of the state where you’ll find great scenery and outdoor recreation opportunities. There’s the Roaring River State Park which offers camping, fishing and hiking, plus Missouri’s other big Ozarks attraction is the Lake of the Ozarks. This area features golfing, boat rentals, accommodation, fishing, shopping and more.

The climate in Missouri is generally humid continental. Summers will be hot and humid, though not unbearably hot and winters will be cold. The hottest month of the year in Kansas City, for example is July with an average high of 30.5C (87F) whilst the coldest month is January with an average high of 2C (36F).
