Gresham Flights:
Flights to Gresham
Situated just east of Portland in the US state of Oregon, Gresham is this state’s fourth largest city even though it’s often considered to be a suburb of Portland.
Since Gresham is mainly a suburb of Portland, you’ll find the nearest airport is the Portland International Airport (airport code: PDX) and this is your best choice for flights to Gresham. The airport is located only around 13 miles (21km) from Gresham so getting to the city is relatively quick. Both Virgin Atlantic and British Midland have flights to Gresham that connect in London and Chicago, but British Airways goes through London and then San Francisco. South African Airways also travels that route. Your last option would be with Delta, and they fly through Atlanta and Denver.

The Tourist Attractions in Gresham:
Gresham itself is not big on tourist attractions as most of the area’s attractions can be found in nearby Portland. Formerly known simply as Campground, Gresham started to develop into more of a town when a local store owner agreed to allow his store to be used as a post office in 1884. Before this the town was little more than a campground where pioneers stopped for the night on their way through to Portland. Even though the post office opened in 1884 Gresham didn’t become an incorporated city until 1905 and was named by the original postmaster after Postmaster General Walter Gresham.
Mt Hood Jazz Festival
Gresham is best known for its annual Mt Hood Jazz Festival. Since 1982 this large festival has taken place every year and attracts visitors from around the state, the country, and even the rest of the world. The Mt Hood Jazz Festival is held every August in the historic downtown area of Gresham and has included some very famous names such as B.B. King. The great thing is that some of the events are usually free and take place in the open air so even if you don’t want to spend money on tickets for specific events, you can still enjoy some elements of the festival.
Oxbow Park
Oxbow Park is Gresham’s popular family park where you can go to enjoy a swim in the river, picnics or barbecues or even stay here overnight in one of the designated camping areas.
Portland
As there aren’t too many things for the adventuresome tourist to do in Gresham itself, the city can be looked upon as a great base to use for exploring the surrounding area and the nearby city of Portland. Portland is the largest city in Oregon so there’s lots to see and do here and it’s an attractive city to visit.
Some of the top attractions in Portland include the Portland Museum of Art, and the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry. Portland is big on roses and if you’re visiting in June you can go to the Portland Rose Festival, or visit the Portland International Rose Test Gardens. Other beautiful gardens in this city include the Chinese Classical Garden, the Portland Japanese Garden, and Crystal Springs Rhododendron Gardens.
When Should You Visit?:
Gresham has a mild year round climate so provided you don’t mind rainfall this city can be visited at any time of the year! Summers (from June to September) are probably the best time to visit as temperatures are warm and it’s generally sunny and fairly dry. Spring and autumn are also warm and despite the mild winter temperatures this is the rainiest time of year.
