The Tourist Attractions in Anaheim:

Anaheim is best known as the home of Disneyland and it’s a shame that many tourists come to Anaheim just to visit Disneyland before moving on or going home. Anaheim actually has a fair bit more to offer than just the theme parks, so it’s wroth spending some time here exploring the city and all it has to offer.

Downtown Anaheim
Downtown Anaheim for example is a lovely area. Known as The Anaheim Colony, downtown’s historic district covers one square mile of both residential and commercial properties that includes some very well preserved historical buildings. The district has a great atmosphere and makes a nice place to enjoy a morning or afternoon of window shopping. While you’re in downtown Anaheim look out for the city’s art museum, called MUZEO.

Disneyland Resort
Originally opened in 1955, Disneyland Resort in Anaheim is the original Disney theme park. What started fairly small has expanded quite significantly over the years so as well as Disneyland itself you can now also visit a newer theme park, called Disney’s California Adventure, plus Downtown Disney. There are also several Disney themed hotels to stay in nearby, or an excellent selection of other hotels and motels.

Disneyland Park as it’s now known to avoid confusion with the resort as a whole, features Sleeping Beauty’s Castle and a number of themed areas similar to the Magic Kingdom in Orlando – there’s Main Street, Tomorrowland, Adventureland, Frontierland, and more.

Disney’s California Adventure Park opened far more recently, in 2001, and is dedicated to everything Californian with its themed areas and multiple rides and attractions.

Adventure City
If you enjoy theme parks but would like a change from Disney, Anaheim is also home to Adventure City. This isn’t really on the scale of Disneyland but for family fun without so many of the crowds this may be worth visiting.

Sports in Anaheim
As well as Disneyland, Anaheim is best known for its sports teams – the Anaheim Ducks and the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. The Angels play Major League Baseball at Angel Stadium while the Ducks play in the National Hockey League at what’s now called The Honda Center. If you’re visiting Anaheim during the season for either baseball or ice hockey then you should definitely try to get along to a game and soak in the fun atmosphere.

When Should You Visit?:

Being in Southern California Anaheim has a warm and pleasant climate throughout the year, similar to Mediterranean though warmer. During the summer average high temperatures are in the high 20’s to low 30’s C and rainfall is next to non-existent. Winter temperatures are very nice, remaining as high as an average high of 21C in January, however, winter is the rainy season with most rainfall coming between January and March.
